ROMANIA HOLDS THE THIRD ROUND OF THE WORLD SUPERENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP

Dominik Olszowy has an accident and has to abandon the race due to an injury. Toby Martyn takes a big step forward and improves positions. Àlex Puey finishes fifth and regains the second position in the Junior class fight.

Romania held the third round of the SuperEnduro 2025 World Championship in the town of Cluj-Napoca, a race in which the Rieju Factory Team could not miss.

The track designed within the BTarena was quite narrow, slower and more technical than in previous races, making overtaking difficult, with obstacles mostly made of wooden logs and stones.

Dominik Olszowy arrived in Romania eager to continue maintaining his high pace, after a spectacular start of the season, where in the first appointments he has been fighting directly with the current World Champion and placed in the provisional second place in the championship. With this, he started the SuperPole setting the fourth best time.

But luck would not be on his side that night, as in the first round of the Prestige class, Olzsowy started a bit behind, placed in the middle group; the Rieju rider attacked lap after lap to overcome the obstacles and his opponents, until he reached the second position. Unfortunately, when he was jumping one of the trunks in the air, he fell badly and was thrown off the front of his bike, hitting his groin on the handlebars; although he got up and was able to cross the finish line in 11th position, he had to leave the competition to go to the hospital to check the extent of the injury. After being visited by the doctors in Barcelona, Olszowy suffered a large hematoma in his groin, which is evolving favorably, but he has to remain 72 hours in observation and rest.

Due to this mishap, Olszowy now drops to 5th place in the provisional general classification with 102 points.

For his part, the former trialist Toby Martyn, improved his result compared to previous tests, entering the SuperPole where he scored the seventh best time. In the heats, he obtained results of seventh in the first one, eighth in the second one and finished with a sixth place in the last one. With this, the British driver finished the Romanian GP in eighth position, but tied in points with the seventh. In the provisional overall standings, Martyn is 10th with 56 points.

In the Junior class, Àlex Puey had a good performance in the first race, fighting for second place, but crashed when he collided with a lapped rider, finishing in fourth position. In the second race and starting in reverse order on a difficult track to overtake, with several clogs, he could only finish in seventh position. In the third and last race, he was able to make the most of his efforts and achieved a very good second position. With these results, Puey finished the night in the fifth position of the GP of Romania, a positive result with which he returns again to the second provisional position of the championship with 112 points and in full fight for the final victory.

The fourth round of the World Cup will be contested on February 1 at the Atlas Arena in Łódź, Poland.

Dominik Olszowy:

“After the accident in the race, I had to go to the hospital due to a strong hematoma in the groin and we couldn't continue racing in Romania, but we will come back stronger. Thanks for all the support from the people and to my Rieju Factory Team for their attention.”

Toby Martyn:

“The third round in Romania was really good for me. I started the night doing Superpole, being a new experience. I also kept my consistency in the race finishing seventh, eighth and sixth. Overall I finished eighth, which was my goal at the beginning of the night. I still have a lot of work to do, but little by little we are getting there. Thanks to the team for working so hard so that I can try my best to get the best results.”

Àlex Puey:

“Very happy with the weekend, it was a very slow and closed circuit, also physically hard, I thought it would cost me something more, but the truth is that it went very well. I could do fourth in practice, so I started fourth, a position that was good, the first race was going very well, second, but a lapped rider threw me, despite this I could climb back to fourth position. In the second race I finished seventh because I started in the second row and I got stuck at the start, where there was a big blockage. In the third race I started well and was able to finish second, very happy, because we were tied with the fourth, but I was in fifth position. I recovered the second place in the championship and we are more motivated than ever to fight in the next race, we will give everything training to do our best and be closer to the leader”.
