In Budapest (Hungary), the fifth round of the seven scheduled for the FIM SuperEnduro 2025 World Championship was held.
The event took place on the MVM Dome track, one of the shortest of the competition, with two different parts, some fast sandy areas with several jumps and another slower and technical part, where lap times were very tight.
During the SuperPole, Dominik Olszowy obtained the fifth best time of this fast lap, followed by his teammate Toby Martyn in sixth place, encouraging results that predicted an interesting night for the Rieju Factory Team.
Unfortunately, at the start of the finals, the races were complicated for them, since, in the first race of the night, Olszowy, attacking hard, suffered an accident when he collided with another participant, with the bad luck of breaking the throttle, being forced to abandon the race. While Toby Martyn, who was doing his best race so far, placed in fourth place provisionally, in a long jump fell short and fell, however, remained in the race, but finished in tenth position.
During the second heat, Olszowy took advantage of coming from behind to push, battling to achieve his best result of the night, finishing in fifth place. Martyn, with some mistakes, finished 12th.
In the third and last race, Olszowy was again attacking, until he met Alfredo Gomez in the trunk area, who had fallen, and trying to avoid him, he was delayed, finishing in eighth position, while Martyn had to retire on the third lap. With these results Olszowy finished this fifth race in 9th position, with Martyn in 13th. Olszowy is now sixth in the championship and Martyn in 12th place provisionally.
In the Junior class, bad luck also for Àlex Puey, who in the first round and after riding only two laps leading the race, in a jump he fell short and suffered a hard fall in which he hurt his right shoulder, forcing him to retire from the competition. In the provisional Junior general classification, Puey is in eighth position.
The sixth and penultimate round of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship will be held in Newcastle, UK, on March 1.
Dominik Olszowy:
“The Hungarian GP was difficult. I enjoyed the track, but I made too many mistakes and crashes, finishing only in 9th position. In the first race I had to push hard from behind, but I crashed hard when I collided with another participant and broke the throttle. In the second race, I got fifth place, coming from the second row allowed me to have some good battles. And in the final, I was going well, until in an area of logs I met Alfredo Gomez who had fallen and I had to avoid him, finishing in eighth position. A race with ups and downs”.
Toby Martyn:
“It was not my best weekend in Budapest. I felt very good on the track during the day, but in the races I made some mistakes that unfortunately cost me dearly. I will train hard again so I can show my speed in Newcastle.”
Àlex Puey:
“Quite sad about the weekend, because in terms of feeling, comfort and everything this has been the weekend that I was feeling better physically, very strong, comfortable with the bike and with the whole team of course, but well they say that everything bad comes at the best time. In the first race, after getting the third best time in practice, I went out first and was leading the race, but when I got to an area where there were lapped riders, to avoid hooking me, I jumped wrong and made short, hitting the ground with my right shoulder, which meant I could not rejoin the race. Now I have to undergo tests to see the extent of the accident and to be able to recover for the next races”.
