The level of competition was once again extremely high in this sixth round. The track design was less technical, narrower and faster, allowing for more fluid races, although as the evening progressed and laps accumulated, the surface deteriorated and became increasingly demanding.
Representing the Rieju Factory Team was Polish rider Dominik Olszowy, joined for this event by local rider Radford Chugg, a Hard Enduro specialist, who made his debut on the Rieju MR300i with the support of importer Eurotek.
After the qualifying heats and SuperPole, attention turned to the three night finals. Unfortunately for Olszowy, the event did not start as planned. In the first final, he suffered a heavy impact to his knee on lap four and was forced to retire. Chugg finished in twelfth position.
In the second final, despite the knee pain, Olszowy made a strong start and placed himself inside the top three. However, as the race progressed, he gradually lost positions and eventually crossed the line in tenth place, while Chugg finished thirteenth. In the third and final race of the night, still struggling with discomfort, Olszowy was unable to recover ground and finished twelfth, just ahead of Chugg in thirteenth. Despite a challenging round, Olszowy secured valuable championship points, ending the UK GP in twelfth overall, followed by Chugg.
With only one round remaining, scheduled for next weekend in France, Dominik Olszowy remains sixth in the overall World Championship standings with a total of 134 points. It is also worth highlighting that at the French GP, the Rieju Factory Team could celebrate the European Cup title with Eric Miquel, who has been unbeatable so far this season and currently leads the championship aboard his MR 300i.
Dominik Olszowy – Rieju Factory Team
“The sixth round of the SuperEnduro World Championship in Newcastle was planned as my final race before the start of the Spanish Enduro Championship. Unfortunately, in the first final, I received a sideways hit while jumping over a log and crashed into a wall, injuring my knee. Because of the pain, I couldn’t finish the race, but after some rest, I tried again in the last two finals. It was more about survival than racing, as my knee was not in good condition. Now we’re back home working with physiotherapists and doctors to recover as soon as possible.”
